海洋生物による金属元素の特異的濃縮

Hyperaccumulator の用語を初めて用いたのはBrooks博士である。
　
（We coined the term hyperaccumulator to describe plants containing
>1000 ug/g (0.1%) nickel in dry material. This term is not completely arbitrary as it represents a concentration about 100 times greater that the highest values to be expected in non-accumulating plants. -cited from 'Plants that Hyperaccumulate Heavy Metals' edited by R.R.Brooks-CAB INTERNATIONAL 1998).
　
しかし、ニッケルを高濃度に蓄積するhyperaccumulator plant (日本語で超集積性植物？)　がどの生息地域においても0.1%以上の濃度を示すとはおもえない。Hyperaccumulationおよび Hyperacumulatorは、含量という基準で選別するのではなくて他の生物（群）と比較することで抽出される現象、そして一般の生物とは異なる特殊能力を有する生物と私は考えています。
